The national media is doing a very good job of painting this years presidential contest as a virtual dead heat. A quick look at Real Politics average of the nationwide polls shows Obama with a mere 2.4 percent lead over Romney. Therefore anyone with half a brain can see that it is true. But if you think winning the popular vote means anything, just ask Al Gore.
It’s easy to understand why the media is focusing on these nationwide polls. A tight race is a lot more interesting than one that is not. And we all now that “interesting” equals higher ratings than “not interesting.” I believe that’s why this years coverage of the presidential election is so much more focused on national polls than the State by State polls. Can anyone tell me the last time we saw Chuck Todd or Wolf Blitzer or even Rachel Maddow put up a map of the electoral college as it stands? It’s no wonder when you consider the fact that when the match up between Obama and Romney is viewed from the perspective of the Electoral College, Obama is walking away with this race.
Real Politics web site’s Electoral College map shows that if the election were held today according to the State by State poll averages, Obama would win 332 to 206. Not exactly the virtual tie we’re all being led to believe it is, is it. Even when the so-called toss up States are subtracted from the count, Obama still leads 221 to 181. And when you look at the trajectory of the presidential race, Romney has a very, very long way to go if he wants to turn this thing around.
Now as an Obama supporter I don’t want to jinx anything. But I think it’s important to point out that today’s news media is far more concerned with keeping us tuned in than providing information about what is really going on. Not even MSNBC is clean on this one.
The bottom line here folks is that all of it, and I mean’ all, is nothing but a gigantic smoke screen to keep us distracted from the fact that the wealthy elite of this planet has the rest of us bent over like a 10 year old boy under the care of Jerry Sandusky. And the media is Joe Paterno.

Dewey beats Truman is a perfect example.
I agree that popular opinion polls are a waste of time and often swing like a pendulum week to week.
However, the real place to look the growth of the National Debt to show the political party that offers the least evidence of evil.
For example: The National Debt. The GOP's conservative media machine (News Corp and conservative talk radio) have done a great job attempting to blame the National Debt on President Obama while never mentioning the GOP's role in its growth. After all, speak no evil, hear no evil, and see no evil holds true for the GOP unless that evil spotlight can be pointed at the Democrats.
Here are a few facts to keep the record straight. According to Concord Coalition.org, the National Debt as of July 2012 was $15,874,365,457,260 (almost $16 trillion).
Where did all of that DEBT come from?
When President Reagan moved into the White House, the National Debt was less than one trillion dollars. When he left office, it was almost $2.7 trillion and the interest expense on that debt added more than $200 billion.
Under the first Bush, the National Debt grew to $4.166 trillion dollars and the interest on the debt was more than one trillion dollars during his four years in the White House.
Then President Clinton, a democrat, moved into the White House. Eight years later with a balanced budget, he moved out of the White House and left behind $5.6 trillion in debt. Where did that added $1.4343 trillion come from?
I'll tell you. While he was in office, the interest on the National Debt Clinton inherited from the previous two Republican presidents cost more than $2.7 trillion over eight years so it looks as if he did pretty good to hold back growth of the National Debt.
Then comes income tax cutting (mostly for the wealthy that just keep getting wealthier) President G.W. Bush and his two wars (one wasn't justified).
While Bush lived in the White House and the GOP held a majority in both houses of Congress for six of his eight years as President, the National Debt grew to almost $10.7 trillion and almost $3 trillion of that was from the added expense of interest paid on the National Debt most of which came from Reagan and the older Bush.
This is what President Obama inherited from three Republican Presidents. While Obama has lived in the White House, the National debt grew to about $15.126 trillion dollars (an increase of $4.4 trillion) but about $1.2 trillion of that was from the interest on the debt he inherited from Bush while he has had to deal with the GOP Party of "NO" dominated Congress that continues to demand lower taxes while refusing to work together to fix anything.

Meanwhile the Washington Post says the true cost of the Iraq war is $3 trillion and beyond.

In addition, the war in Afghanistan, that was bungled and often ignored by the younger Bush's administration, according to Cost of War.org, totals almost $500 billion so far.

We must also not forget the financial crises that President Obama inherited from President Bush and the GOP. According to Source Watch.org, the total Wall Street Bailout Cost to keep the US out of a depression worse than the Great Depression, the Federal Government disbursed almost $5 trillion dollars. If Obama had done nothing, for sure, he would have been a four year term president and as he left office, unemployment would have been about 100 million people.
If you do not believe that, I suggest you buy a copy of "TOO BIG TO FAIL" and watch it to learn what was going on that led up to and after the 2007-2009 global financial crises bomb exploded in New York on Wall Street.

Do we really want to trust the future of America to any GOP candidate for president and do we really want to allow the GOP to hold a majority in either House of Congress?
